Old Nursery - New Green Space for St. Lorenz Süd

The former Reusch nursery at Moislinger Allee 66 is becoming a green oasis in St. Lorenz Süd! On August 26, 2021, the Lübeck city council decided, at the request of the SPD, to purchase the land to create a public green space. This marks a significant step towards making the district, which previously had the fewest public green areas in Lübeck, a more livable place.

Restoration of the Pathway

Another goal of the SPD and the Hanseatic City of Lübeck is to make the path through the old nursery accessible again for all citizens. This pathway has already been reopened, but it has largely gone unnoticed by the public. Therefore, the SPD Holstentor Süd invites all neighbors to a small celebration, which will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10:00 AM under the old walnut tree.

A Space for Everyone

The newly designed area will not only provide a green lung for the district but will also serve as a training facility for the Lübeck city gardening department. In the coming months, trainees will actively participate in the redesign. Numerous projects are planned to strengthen the community and contribute to biodiversity:

• An orchard that not only looks beautiful but also provides food sources for various animal species.
• Urban gardening, where residents and schools can garden together to grow fresh vegetables and fruits.
• A mini-forest and special "climate trees" that not only provide shade but also actively combat climate change.
• Practice beds and greenhouses for training and sharing knowledge about plants and garden care.
• A small pond that creates a habitat for various animal species and invites relaxation.

In the first step, the path between Moislinger Allee and Dornestraße has been restored and illuminated. However, there is still a long way to go until the green oasis is fully realized; currently, visitors are still accompanied by wilderness along the path.
